Please join the Nantucket Immigration Community Alliance (formerly the Immigration Task Force)
Thursday May 4th at 5pm at the UU Meeting House on 11 Orange St.
as we meet to discuss what to include in our Immigration Information Center, that will be open once a month at the UU Meeting House, and how to train ourselves to staff this center. All hands are needed on deck!
We will also continue to make plans for community events, potlucks, dances, and conversations to build friendship, trust and understanding.

March 16, 5pm, place:m Hendrix Hall, UU Meeting House.
Linda Simmons is directing the group, Immigration Task Force. This group is separate from Indivisible Nantucket but working toward the same aims with a focus on the immigration issues now facing our friends and neighbors.
Chief Pittman will be at this meeting to answer questions and concerns. Linda is also inviting leading members of the immigrant faith communities on the island.
Rev. Linda Simmons has been working on immigration for over ten years, three of those years on-island with Pastor Eduardo Calles from Faro de Luz, the El Salvadorian Congregation that meets at the UU Meeting House, and with Tom Ryan from St. Mary’s whom many of you know. The Catholics are at the forefront of the work with immigration in our nation and in our town. Tom will be with us at this meeting to discuss what is happening on the national and local levels.
- Discuss what has been happening on island up to this point. What is changing now?
- What is the position of our Nantucket Police with regard to ICE?
- What can we do to in preparation for a Raid Readiness?
- How can we be good allies to our undocumented friends and neighbors here on island?
- What could we be doing on the National level?
- Next steps: speakers, actions, requests??
